Avast causes BSOD with Windows 10 Anniversary Update [Fixed]

It is always recommended to uninstall third-party Antivirus before installing major update such as Anniversary Update on Windows 10, guess what happened! Avast users using latest version 12.2.2276 —for which,when released Czech security software company claimed it is fully compatible with the upcoming update –when tried to upgrade to Windows 10 version 1607, update install failed and users received Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) with error:’system thread exception not handled’.

Affected users have been able get back into Windows and uninstalled Avast, after that, they were able to install Anniversary Update successfully without any issues. If you try to re-install Avast again after AU, you’ll be BSOD’d, so be careful!

Bottom line is please uninstall Avast before installing anniversary update and and don’t try to install Avast after upgrading to Windows 10 version 1607. Until now Avast hasn’t been able to find a solution to this after reported by users. We’ll let you know when Avast team addresses this issue.

UPDATE: Avast has been able to fix the issue by releasing emergency update. Open run dialog and use this command

C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\AvastEmUpdate.exe

Wait for some time and restart your computer.

    This is why I just stick with MSE. Does a great job of protecting my system, doesn’t give me problems like this, and it’s completely free. It also doesn’t completely bog down my system like Avast, AVG and pretty much every other anti-virus program ever does.
