When you visit YouTube site and attempt to play a video on it, it won’t, instead the video player throws the error ‘An error occurred, please try again later’, let us see how we can make the video to play again on YouTube.
- Enable Media Source Extensions in Firefox for a better YouTube Player
- Google makes HTML5 Player default for Playing Videos on YouTube in Chrome
Fixing YouTube’s ‘An error occurred, please try again later’ error
The YouTube help page says, the video should be played in about 30 minutes (can’t wait? Try in another browser then). Refreshing the page always helps, this worked for me.
And if the error keeps greeting you, try these things
UPDATE March 14, 2016: [Begin: Sign into your Google or YouTube account (both should be same)
- Visit https://www.youtube.com/account_privacy, click on Google Ad Settings,
- Uncheck all under ‘Your Interests’ and change ‘Ads based on your interests’ setting to ‘Off’
- Click on ‘Control Signed out of ads’ and change both the switches on the page to ‘off’
- Install IBA Opt-out by Google extension from Chrome Web Store.
Check if you see the error on YouTube for videos you’re watching, if you’ve done all the steps, it won’t be shown. ?This has been already worked for some.
Note: First check the below steps, then only follow the above update. End]
1. Change video quality to a lower quality setting like 240p or 360p, and try to run the video again by clicking on the Play button.
2. If you’ve opened multiple tabs or windows in browser, keep the video tab open and close remaining ones and try to run the video again.
3. Make sure you’re using the latest version of the browser.
YouTube Quality Selector Automatically Plays YouTube Videos with Suitable Quality
4. Ensure your Flash Player version installed is up-to-date.
5. Re-enable JavaScript, if you’ve disabled it. We’ve covered the steps to disable JavaScript in browsers, by following those steps you can turn the JavaScript back on.
Read: How to Disable JavaScript In Firefox 23+?
6. Clear Cookies and cache– most of the browsers offer options to clear browsing data, you can also use a third party tool like CCleaner or Auslogics Browser Care for that purpose- which may not only fixes the problem, but can improve the speed and performance of the browser.
Psst! Incognito mode (Ctrl+Shift+N) may come in handy next time
Have you faced this error? How you’ve resolved it? Share with us in the comments
I enjoy my music selections on you tube, and today there was a problem and I would have to wait a while. This is weird, for one thing, nothing like that has ever happened, and I listen to you tube about twice a week. I love that I can put what ever I want to hear on and its so satisfying. If there is anything you know about this happening in the past, because it has never happened to me before. Also I did try opening another browser but it was the same thing.
Thanks so much
Kellie
Nothing has worked to resolve this! I’ve deleted my browsing history, cleared the cache, changed cookies to allow all even though it was already set to that, removed chrome and then reinstalled it, made sure java script and adobe flash player are updated and enabled, and none of my other browsers have this problem. It all seemed to start after I had an automatic update on my Windows 8.1 computer.
I would really like for this to be resolved.
Have you tried this: If you’re using an adblock, disable it and see if the solves the problem for YouTube.
I honestly tried every single steps above as well and I’m still experiencing the same “error” on YouTube! If I wait 30 sec, it will start playing but its quite frustrating when you’re a YouTube addict like me! :) Any other suggestion?
Are you signed into your Google/youtube account when you’re seeing this error?
I just started having this problem to youtube plays normal if I am not signed in if I sign in I get a error message for 30 seconds then it plays. I have done everything mentioned above I listen to music on it quite a bit. I am at a lost as every song starts with 30 secs of silence.
It likely is due to ISP throttling your account. ISPs have issues with providing streaming video because it places greater burden on their bandwidth and they are not able to charge extra for it.
I used to stream videos at night – white background static to help me sleep. I used to be able to play 8hr videos non-stop. For the past several weeks or so I’ve noticed the video keeps stopping at around 5-6hrs in.
I’ve tried setting the resolution to 144. While the buffer is not as tight at that setting the video still shuts down 6hrs in.
None of the above troubleshooting will make the slightest difference, other than refreshing the browser.
If you are behind a firewall that has allowed youtube.com, also make sure that googlevideo.com is allowed.
I had the same problems. Tried everything as above. Nothing worked.
Someone talked about personalization settings somewhere, so I tried fooling with some of the AppData and it worked.
Here’s the steps I used:
1. Close all open Chrome browser windows.
2. Hit CTRL+SHIFT+ESC to get to task manager and kill any remaining Chrome.exe instances.
3. Open Windows Explorer and go to:
C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome
4. Rename UserData to be UserData2
5. Open Chrome.
6. Visit Youtube – ensure it works now.
7. Close Chrome.
8. Delete UserData2
9. Rename UserData2 back to UserData
Done! It should be fixed now. Hope it works for you too.
thank you Tom that fixed it
only your step “8. Delete UserData2” should say “8. Delete UserData”
