Curious to know which Antivirus works in Windows 11? With the new Windows Operating system soon to be available to eligible PCs, the Independent security test lab, AV-Comparatives (AVC) checked and released a list of compatible consumer Antivirus for Windows 11.
Windows 11 is coming on October 5
Windows 11 is a new Operating System from Microsoft. It contains a centered start menu, taskbar, new UI, new context menus, new File Explorer. It’s just a beautiful modern OS with fluent design and mica material effect.
To install the new OS, your PC should be running Intel 8th generation Processor or higher, have a TPM 2.0 chip embedded in the motherboard, and should support Secure Boot. Microsoft made these requirements mandatory even for Windows 11 Virtual machines also.
If your device doesn’t meet the above conditions, you may be able to run Windows 11 on it, but you’re unlikely to receive support and security updates.
Install or Upgrade to Windows 11 only if your device is qualified. It’s worth noting whichever antivirus you use, Windows Updates are mandatory.
Microsoft recently stated they have tested thousands of applications on Windows 11. Unsurprisingly, the company said most of the programs that worked in Windows 10 ran well in Windows 11 also.
Last month, AVC said popular AV behaved well in the new Windows, now the test lab came with names of 17 AVs compatible with Windows 11 after testing on insider build 22454.1000.
The lab found the AVs worked and detected malware samples as they did on Windows 10

The above Antivirus software passed the AV-Comparatives compatibility check by doing the following.
- Install successfully, without requiring specialist knowledge or workarounds
- Activate Real-time protection without user intervention
- Integrate With Windows security
- Successfully update malware signatures, either automatically or manually
- warn if real-time protection is disabled and allow the user to reactivate it easily
- Provide at least the same malware detection as on Windows 10
- Take appropriate action when malware is encountered, ensuring that the system is protected.
- Have no bugs or erroneous notifications
- Uninstall cleanly and remove its entry in Windows Security
It’s worth noting these AVs mentioned above are yet to officially support Windows 11. You should take these AV compatibility check results from a third-party test lab with a pinch of salt. Until and unless a security vendor claims Windows 11 compatible don’t purchase the antivirus product.
Windows Defender is free and effective against malware, comes built-in with Windows 11, you don’t need to pay for it to use it.
