Chrome 70 Disables Exit Shortcut Ctrl+Shift+Q, shows a toast to use Alt+F, X instead

If you use Ctrl+Shift+Q shortcut to close all windows and tabs in Chrome browser, know this, Google has removed the shortcut in Chrome 70 and now displaying a toast asking users to use Alt+F, X shortcut instead when they press the previous shortcut assigned for Exit.

Alt+F, X is the new shortcut to quit Chrome

Users who have accidentally pressed Ctrl+Shift+Q instead of Ctrl+Shift+Tab and lost their Chrome Windows, reported several times to Chromium team to look into this issue. The bug ‘Remove Ctrl+Shift+Q shortcut and a toast instructing users to press Alt+F, X instead’ created in May 2013, has been fixed recently on September 24, 2018, and the change has been landed on Chrome 70.

Press Alt+F followed by X to exit toast in Chrome

FYI, Alt+F opens the Chrome menu, and pressing X, closes the Chrome application completely. The toast notification that alerts users about the change to vanish in Chrome 75.

Tip: You can also select ‘Exit’ from the menu by using the mouse to quit Chrome browser.

Why people Use  Ctrl+Shift+Tab shortcut in Chrome and what is its use?

For the uninitiated, Ctrl+Shift+Tab shortcut is used in Chrome to go to the previous tab, as Q key is next to Tab in the keyboard, there is a chance to press former.

And the popular Chrome browser doesn’t show confirmation/warning dialog when you close multiple tabs, which also makes the issue bigger. Chrome on next restart may restore a window only, users who have lost open tabs and windows, have to press Ctrl+Shift+ T to restore another window and spare a thought of those in this case who’ve set their Chrome browser to start with new tab page or to open specific pages or a set of pages, if browser doesn’t show restore previous session dialog.

Coincidentally, Mozilla offers the same shortcut to exit Firefox, but here Ctrl+Shift+Tab doesn’t do anything in Firefox, that’s why no one used it and the issue not raised.

Don’t you think this is a good move by Google? Do you welcome or hate this change?
