Chrome Tests Rich Entity Suggestions in Omnibox

You know how useful Google Chrome Omnibox is as it just not only lets you search and visit websites, but also displays answers directly and helps in searching sites frequently you visit. Google is now testing the redesign of omnibox suggestions by displaying images and descriptive text. Chromium team calls the feature as ‘Rich Entity Suggestions ‘and is available behind a flag for testing in dev and Canary version of Chrome.

Enable Rich Entity Suggestions in Omnibox in Chrome

1. Visit chrome://flags/#omnibox-rich-entity-suggestions

Now type Abraham LincoIn or Micahel Jackson to see their images appear along with answer and other suggestions in drop down below.

Note: The feature requires ‘Use a prediction service to help complete searches and URLs typed in the address bar’ setting to be enabled in Privacy and Security Settings to work.

To disable the flag, visit link in step 1 and set setting to default, if you’ve made this one change to Chrome, resetting flags also does the same.

This is just an experiment and is there is no guarantee it will be shipped with Chrome Stable version.

Here is the bug with description.

[Omnibox] Fetch and draw entity images: ‘ This CL will fetch the entity image_url (if present) and draw the image in the result. While the image is being downloaded, a placeholder dot consisting of the image’s dominant color is shown.’
