How to make Cursive Chromebook App work on Windows

Google has released Cursive, a handwritten note-taking app for HP Chromebooks X211 and it is available for install. It’s a PWA but works on ChromeOS only. Here is how you can use it in on a device running Windows.

Handwritten notes on Cursive in Chrome on Windows

What you need to know about Cursive:

  1. Cursive, is a Progressive Web App, built with Lit 2 web component.
  2. With Google Keep available, Google has released yet another note-taking app, specially designed for Chromebooks.
  3. If your touchscreen Chromebook works with Stylus, you can use it to write notes on Cursive.
  4. With Cursive,” you can take handwritten notes and edit them with simple gestures. Never lose a note with automatic syncing to your Google Account”, Google says.

Caveat:

The Cursive app can’t be run on a non-Chromebook. When you try to do that, It keeps asking to reopen the app with something that happened and turns the App to “read-only mode”, but there is a way to get your hands on it.

  6. Hard reload the page right away by pressing F5.

If your Windows device supports touch, you can use it by switching between Touch and Stylus mode from the three-dot menu.

Cursive features

  • Cursive allows to change notebook background to Blank, Line Wide, Line arrow, Grid large, Grid small, Dots large, Dots small.
Click on the three-dot icon > change background and select the desired option.
  • You’ll be allowed to export notes as PDF.
  • See what Cursive is by selecting the “feature tour” option in the 3 dot icon.

For the best experience, Google recommends running Cursive on Chromebooks.

Closing Words:

By running  Chome with a user agent set to ChromeOS, you can make Cursive App believe you’re running it on a Chromebook, but the experience won’t be great.
