How to Enable Reader View in Chromium-based Microsoft Edge browser

After Google added reader mode to Chrome on desktop and is available in Canary, its time to write how to enable reader view in Chromium-based Microsoft Edge browser as the new Edge browser is not going use Chrome Reader mode provided powered by DOM Distiller. Classic Edge has Reading View built-in, Microsoft will simply port that to their Chromium browser.

What is reading mode anyway?

All browsers now come with reader mode, which when turned on, remove distracting elements on a webpage such as ads, sidebar, navigation elements and creates a better environment for reading.

If you’ve used Classic Edge, the browser shows open book icon when a page is reader-friendly, you need to click it to enter reader view.

Similar to that, Chromium Edge offers an open book icon, but before that do know Reader view is still not available in Chromium Edge, Microsoft promised its coming, you don’t need to wait till its available, because it is in edge://flags page.

Enable Reader View in Chromium-based Edge browser

1. Visit edge://flags

2. Find “Microsoft Edge Reading View” flag

3. Select “Enabled”

4. Restart the browser.

To exit the reading view, you need to click on the open book icon again, the original article will be restored then.
