Vivaldi team hasn’t taken a break after releasing 1.0, they’ve released a snapshot immediately after that with New tab options. FYI, Vivaldi browser is available as stable version for public and as a snapshot for advanced users for testing, which contains bugs.
If you’re not sure which version of Vivaldi you’re using, visit vivaldi://about page or select ‘About’ in the Help menu of V menu, to find out that. Note: About page displays the Snapshot name with developer build, where the stable version just shows the version number.
Snapshots will be released more frequently, once a developer build qualifies for release, it will be released to public as stable.
Using Vivaldi snapshot is similar to running Chrome developer or Firefox Nightly or Opera developer.
Installing and using both Vivaldi Stable and Snapshot on Windows is possible
You’ll be forever on Snapshot unless you install the release version over it, doing so is not possible and will result in an error: ‘This computer already has a more recent version of Google Chrome. If the software is not working, please uninstall Google Chrome and try again’.
Here you either need to uninstall Vivaldi and then try to install another version on your computer or to use or run both versions side by side, install another Vivaldi version in standalone method, here is how you can do the second part.
Vivaldi portable or standalone installation
Download the Vivaldi installer, run it, click on ‘Advanced’, choose the Installation type as ‘Install Standalone‘and click on ‘Accept and install’ button to proceed with the installation on desired location or drive on your computer, except in the OS drive.
Note: You can download stable version by visiting Vivaldi homepage whereas snapshot by visiting their blog.
