
If you save captured images from Snagit to your hard drive, that’s fine, in case you forgot to save them this is the article that tells you where to find them on your computer. Even if you don’t save captures, Snagit automatically stores them in its DataStore folder. So you can visit that folder and save unsaved files or captures to the regularly saved directory on your system.

Where does Snagit save unsaved captures or files?
- Open the Run dialog (Win+R)
- Copy and paste Paste the below path in it and press enter.

In Windows XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\<User name>\Local Settings\Application Data\TechSmith\SnagIt\DataStore
In Windows Vista/ 7/ 8, Windows 10 and Windows 11:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\TechSmith\SnagIt\DataStore
Snagit 12 or later versions, lets you change Snagit’s automatic stored files location to the desired one you want.

DataStore folder contains images with SNAG extension format, so you need to open them in the Snagit editor and save them in the desired image format such as PNG or JPEG.
For instance, to set the DataStore folder to a custom folder you want in Snagit 13, open Snagit Editor, File > Editor Preferences > Library,
Click the folder icon for ‘Library location’ in the browser and set it.
Summary: Techsmith Snagit automatically saves captured images (saved and unsaved) in the DataStore folder. You can open its location by typing %LOCALAPPDATA%\TechSmith\SnagIt\DataStore path in the Run dialog.
