ProcessActivityView, Track Files and Folders Accessed by Processes in Windows

Last updated on August 5, 2012 By Venkat

Do you ever wondered or wanted to know which files and folders does a process access Task Manager doesn’t provide this information, if you’re curious to know this info then meet freeware portable tool from Nirsoft ProcessActivityView which shows summary of all files and folders that a selected process tries to access and this utility displays following information: for file it tried to access Number of times that the file was  opened and closed, number of read/write calls, total number of read/write bytes, the dll that made the last open-file call, and more…

Using ProcessActivityView you can know which files and folders are accessed by selected processes.

Using ProcessActivityView

Download the program zip file, extract its contents to a folder and run ProcessActivityView executable, with minimalist and intuitive interface this program shows all processes running you need to select one to know which files accessed by that process right now, you can latter stop the program from tracking file activity of the process by selecting stop from File menu or by using  F8 shortcut. You better succeed in testing by selecting Explorer.exe process.

ProcessActivityView

You can generate HTML report for all/selected items from the view menu which may be useful for troubleshooting purposes.

ProcessActivityView works on Windows XP/Vista/7, you can download this program from here.
