Fix to “ Installation Failed. The Google Chrome Installer failed to Start”

Last updated on July 6, 2015 By Venkat

One bad day this can happen to you: when you try to install Chrome after downloading its setup file, you’ll get a dialog from Google Chrome Installer with the message “ Installation failed. The Google Chrome installer failed to Start”. What you need to do to install your favorite browser again? Here is the article that offers fix for the issue.

Fix Chrome’s ‘Update failed (error: 7),.. Error code=0×00000000′

The fix involves editing registry, so if you’re unaware of registry editing take the help of other advanced users near you.

Google chrome installer installation failed

1. Open registry editor by typing regedit in the run command

2. Now navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE \Google\Update\Clients\, on the left pane, right click on the key {430FD4D0-B729-4F61-AA34-91526481799D}’ and select ‘Delete’ button.

3. Now navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE \Google\Update\Clients\, delete the key {430FD4D0-B729-4F61-AA34-91526481799D} and all its sub folders.

Google update directory registry entry

4. For 64-bit Windows, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Google\Update\Clients, and delete this key {430FD4D0-B729-4F61-AA34-91526481799D} and all its sub folders shown on the right pane.

5. Now close Registry Editor and try to install Chrome again, this time it will work as happened with me.

Install Both Google Search and Chrome On Windows 8 from “Get Your Google Back” Site

In fact, I had not found the key mentioned above for the registry entry in the second step, I have found it on the registry entry said in the third step.

    Doesn’t help here.
Google doesn’t show a feedback button when I click on the link (which appears when getting the error) which shows line #3 as the solution. That sucks.
I think it’s hard to contact Google anyway. I think that’s evil. (Just as with Microsoft and other big companies who don’t offer an easy way to contact. They always point to useless forums and FAQ’s. I think those companies don’t have a clue about what’s user friendly and what not.) Google doesn’t show an option to download the english version of Chrome. That’s evil too.
Same error as Chris, but then in another language:
‘De installatie is mislukt. Het starten van het installatieprogramma van Google Chrome is mislukt.”

Btw, I had the reverse as topic starter: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE \Google\Update\Clients\; not HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE \Google\Update\Clients\.

  15. Jerry Silver says

Didn’t work for me… I didn’t even have that registry key. Nor does running it under admin privileges.

Just to save you some pain and if no one else has mentioned it yet ( I haven’t read the comments). On 64bit Windows, the registry key is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREWow6432NodeGoogleUpdate.

Took me a while to find it.
