Though you can install Windows Media Center in Windows 8 RP easily without paying anything, that’s only for a limited period of time. But once when Windows 8 final releases, you need to fall back on third-party DVD playing program like VLC, VLC player plays every media file now. Why to stay with Windows Media Player? Which doesn’t play DVDs and doesn’t support playback of 3GP files and other video file types, go for VLC open-source media player.
Setting VLC Player as the default player in Windows 8
If you’ve not installed VLC, you can install the same from Videolan website, after installing VLC in Windows 8,
- Launch it from the desktop, from Tools menu, select Preferences, when Preferences window shown on the screen
- Use vertical scrollbar to scroll down to the bottom, click on “Set up associations” which opens “Set Programs associations” on the screen
- Now tick or check for “select all” and click “Save” button.
