Opera introduced Search Suggestions for Opera 12 which appears drop down in the address field when you start typing, this is annoying for some Opera users who not got used to this, you can turn off Google search suggestions in Opera’s upcoming major version here is how.
Turning off Search Suggestions in Opera 12
1. All you need to do is visit this link in your browser and
2. Uncheck or remove tick mark for the preference, “Show Search Suggestions In Address field Dropdown” ,
3. Click on “Save” button and restart the browser for the changes to take effect.
4. To re-enable the search suggestions again, follow step 1 and select the checkbox for same preference and click on Save button to save the changes.
Using Opera 12.00 1462 here.
The option you give is unchecked – yet Opera shows/fills in suggestions in the address bar (like, say an exact Youtube address, instead of only www youtube com). I want to be in total control (control freak; yeah I know), and I “hate” when control is taken away from me.
I agree with Dassie, in that my Opera URL flowers out with all sorts of specific BS sites I’ve been to, before (even though this is a new install after a year or so, and even though I always disable history). I hate someone talking over me, and that extends to my typing. I have tried your solution, and that is not at all working. That box is unchecked, already. Do you REALLY know how to disable this annoying feature? If not, please stop pretending that you know what you are talking about.
“Turning off Search Suggestions in Opera 12”
Yeah, it does not work for me, at least not in the 64 bit version. Just like changing the links/visited links’ color.
The preference is saved but it does not work that way.
It is really annoying since history search can not be removed from search engines, thus that useless history search pops up BEFORE every bookmark suggestion while I’m typing.
