Web Clips in Gmail show you news headlines, blog posts, RSS and Atom feeds and relevant sponsored links right at the top of your inbox. Kept aside sponsored links, you can able to get new headlines, RSS and Atom feeds right from Gmail without need of Google Reader, makes Web Clips more of a useful feature.
You can able to see Web Clips by clicking left/right arrows. But Alex Chitu says if you don’t click on the navigation arrows on the Web Clips box Gmail will only show you contextual ads, Which can be annoying.
So if you don’t interact with Web Clips and if you check messages only, then Gmail will no longer show headlines. You can disable Web Clips in Gmail if you want, here is how.
Disabling Web Clips in Gmail
1.Sign into Gmail.
2.Click Settings, click Web Clips and uncheck the box next to “Show my web clips above the inbox”.
