How to Downgrade from AVG 9.0 Trial to AVG 9.0 Free Version without uninstalling AVG Trial

Last updated on September 15, 2014 By Venkat

It’s not a secret I use AVG Anti-Virus Free edition in my Computer, two days back, I uninstalled AVG Free Anti-Virus and installed 30-day trial of AVG Internet security 9.0 to see how it works. Today, I decided to get back to AVG Anti-virus Free edition, I really worried should I need to uninstall AVG Trial and again reinstall AVG free, but that’s not case we can downgrade from AVG Trial to AVG free without uninstalling AVG Trial, let us see how.

Update: Use AVG Downgrader to convert AVG Trial version to Free one

Switching to AVG free version from AVG Trial without uninstalling AVG Trial

1. In Windows XP, go to Start>Control Panel>add or remove programs and select ‘AVG trial’ version and click ‘remove’.

In Windows 7,  Start >Control Panel>Programs>Programs and features select AVG trial and click ‘uninstall’

2. Now AVG uninstall wizard asks, you can convert the  full installation to AVG free if you wish, click Convert to AVG free, and that’s it within a second you get Convert to AVG Free dialog box saying “conversion was successful”.

Update September 15, 2014: When you initiate uninstall of AVG Internet Security, for instance latest v2015,  AVG Uninstaller offers ‘downgrade’ button, which when you click, switches AVG to free protection (check the screenshot above), after requested changes are made you need to restart your computer.

Now you have free license of AVG Free anti-virus protection installed on your Computer without the need to uninstall AVG trial, and then reinstall of AVG free anti-virus.

Thank you! Going back to the free version was so much easier than I thought it was going to be.

    Thanks!
I knew it couldn’t be hard – but of course AVG won’t directly tell you on their website how to downgrade. Would be a pretty bad business strategy. So it was good not to have t figure it out myself.
