Since Google Wave is still in preview, but already there are some experimental add-ons available to try for Firefox. Google Wave Notifier is Google Wave add-on for Firefox displays notifications of incoming waves in status bar. Double clicking on notification will take you to Google Wave.
Configuring Google Wave Notifier
Since Google wave Notifier add-on still in experimental phase that means not reviewed by editors of add-ons team. You have to try this at your own will. Visit Firefox add-on page for Google Wave select ” Let me install this experimental add-on” and click “Add to Firefox.”
After installing Google Wave notifier, you can observe small wave icon in the status bar on right side. Right click the wave icon in account settings of Google Wave options, enter Google wave username and password. Click OK to save changes, from now on any incoming wave notifications will be shown beside Wave icon. You can enter time period as 5 minutes in “Performance Tweaks” to check for new waves of your inbox for every 5 minutes.
Number count after Wave icon will indicate the incoming waves, double clicking on it will takes you to Google wave without need of logging in again.

I've released my own notifier, that doesn't require Firefox to work. It sits in the system tray in Windows with an icon and alerts you to new messages!
