Back in 2012 from Cleverbridge, I’ve purchased a lifetime license for Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Pro version and using it on my one and only computer till yesterday without any activation issues after it’s reinstall.
Yesterday, after doing a fresh install of Windows 10 on a relatively new hard drive (before that tried Windows on new SSD, now switched back to normal hdd) Malwarebytes denied to activate, and showed error code 403 (Windows 10 has activated fine without any issues) saying ‘The Usage level has exceeded the max volume allowed‘.
You can check the below screenshot and here is the complete error message: ‘There is a problem with your license key and we are unable to activate your license. Please check your license details and try reentering your key again. If you continue to have trouble, please contact Malwarebytes Support for assistance’.
Contacting Malwarebytes Support
After many unsuccessful attempts, I’d emailed Malwarebytes support by giving my license details and error information, including the screenshot.
You must include the below information in the description box
- Purchaser name
- Date of purchase
- Email ID using which the purchase has been made or license information has been sent to
- Cleverbrige reference number
- License Key
I got a reply from their support team that they’ve reset my license, suggested to try to activate their anti-malware and contact if I’d any issue. Malwarebytes activated fine on my computer after that when I attempted.
They stated this as the reason for getting 403 error
‘This error will occur when you do not unredeem your license before reinstalling.
To unredeem your license, select the ‘deactivate’ button in the My Account window.”
What I can understand from the above to not get into such issue in the future: before uninstalling MBAM or reinstalling Windows, first deactivate your license by visiting ‘My account’ window, so that, after reinstalling Malwarebytes or Windows, you can able to activate it without any issues.
Note: The above paragraph has been updated.
Note: If you’re already using a Pirate key that has been abused and used by many, then we suggest you to buy Malwarebytes.
