Opera 36‘s first developer update (based on Chromium 49) for 2016 is here with new features and improvements. Opera has changed the start page layout, it has merged News (formerly known as Discover) with Speed Dial, and start page navigation panel has been put on the left side of the page.
New Start page layout
If you don’t like these changes, Opera desktop team has got you, it now lets you customize start page: click on cogwheel that appears on the top right of the page to remove themes, or search box or speed dial or News.
For instance, if you’ve found News unnecessary on Start page, unchecking News will do. You can customize SP like this to your liking.
Tip: Configurable Start page also lets you easily remove Google Search box, actually, current stable version require you to enter koonami code to access Power user settings, which shows the option to ‘hide the search box in the speed dial’.
If you’ve installed more extensions in Opera browser, and if the extension icons don’t fit on the toolbar, then the new extension expander enabled in this dev version will provide room to access them.
If you’re using Windows 10, Opera browser now lets you show the system color on it’s title bar, this feature is behind Windows 10 skin flag, you need to enable that and need to check ‘Show system color on top bar’ setting in User Interface of Browser Settings.
This build includes more UI improvements for Windows 10 users using touch screens.
