If you’ve disabled TechSmith Snagit from auto-updating, (if you don’t know, you can do it by opening Snagit preferences, click on ‘Advanced’ tab, under Snagit Update, remove the tick mark for ‘Enable automated update checking’) and still seeing a popup from Snagit Updater informing that ‘A new version of Snagit it available’ and it the displays release notes for the update, which you can read by scrolling (check the screenshot below).
If you click ‘Update’ button, update will be downloaded and installed, if you click on ‘Later’, this notification will re-appear after some days. If you’ve decided to stay on a particular version, these update notifications can be annoying, here is how you can turn it off.
Disabling Snagit update notification or popup
Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\TechSmith\SnagIt\12, on the right pane, create a new dword32-bit key with name ‘NoAutoUpdateSupport‘ and give the value as 1.
Caution: Use this guide at your own risk, following the instructions removes ‘Check for Updates’ option in Resources of Snagit Editor and ‘Enable Automated update checking’ under ‘Advanced’ tab in Snagit Preferences.
To get the above mentioned update options back, delete the registry key you’ve created before and restart your computer.
Bonus tip: Want to disable @Snagit handle notifications in Snagit editor? Open the editor, click on File Menu> Editor Options, select ‘General’ and Under ‘Assistance’, untick ‘Show all tips’, click ‘OK’ to apply the changes.
