Till now for Google Hangouts , you need to download and install a plugin in Chrome browser, which is no longer required now in Canary and Dev channels, and soon within few weeks, it will be available to all users on stable channel, thanks to WebRTC and Nacl technologies.

"Starting today, we’re rolling out an update that makes it easier than ever to start Hangouts video calls with your family and friends! You’ll now be able to launch Hangouts in Chrome without having to download and install a plugin." Victoria Kirst works at Google said in Google+.

Start a video Hangout, allow to use your microphone and Camera and you’re ready to go. "This update is now available for all Chrome Dev and Canary users, and will be rolling out to all Chrome users over the next few weeks" she added.

Note: In Firefox and other browsers except Chrome, you need to install Hangouts Plugin to make video calls.

Firefox 22 for Desktop to come with WebRTC Enabled by Default
