Before downloading Adobe products such as Adobe Reader or Adobe Flash Player from their website if you don’t pay attention, along with Adobe application McAfee Security Scan Plus (MSSP) also gets downloaded and installed on your computer. MSSP is not an antivirus, instead a free diagnostic tool from McAfee acquired by Intel company checks your PC for threats in running processes and protection status of Antivirus, Firewall and web security.
Once you run the scan, it reports threats if any found and offers fix button -it doesn’t remove threats if found but offers recommendations to buy their products. This is marketing gimmick by security vendors. These tools are useless and ineffective, you can find quite a lot of these on web for free download, some examples are: Bitdefender’s 60-second virus scanner and QuickScan.
You can notice process SSSCHE~1.Exe or SSScheduler.exe – McAfee Security Scan scheduler running on Task Manager, this process is configured to run automatically on startup and keeps running all the time even when the the tool is not open. This tool even automatically scheduled to scan your PC once a week and informs you about your computer security status after performing the scan.
