Its now possible to get rid of start button from Windows 8.1 with a free app. Have you found no use with Start button in Windows 8.1? and want to remove it, Microsoft doesn’t allows to us to disable or remove it, don’t worry! you can still  do that with freeware portable app StartIsGone from Winaero.

When Windows 8 was available, everybody desperate to get start button back on it. Issue with Start Button in Win8.1 is it won’t hide when the taskbar is visible as in Windows 8. Most users not liking this and wanting a way to hide Start button on task bar in Windows 8.1. Forget about hiding! you can remove it now.

Using StartIsGone

  • Using the program is simple, download StartisGone zip file, extract files to a folder.
  • Run app executable from folder X86 or X64, depending which one you’re using.
  • Start button is gone.
  • Make sure you right click on its tray icon and select “Run at startup” on context menu, so that start button will be removed every time when your desktop is shown.

StartIsGone is portable and fully native with Windows 8, it doesn’t requires .NET Framework 3.5.1  or other .NET related features.
