Gmail wants their users to take control of Inbox by introducing New Inbox that automatically groups incoming email messages into respective categories and shows them as different tabs that are customizable. Gmail New Inbox to offer five optional tabs: Primary, Social, Promotions, Updates and Forums. This feature is still rolling out and will be available for users on desktop, and  on mobile over next few weeks. Watch the below video to see Gmail’s new inbox in action.

Itamar Glad, Gmail Product manager says in a blog post “On the desktop, the new inbox groups your mail into categories which appear as different tabs. You simply choose which categories you want and voilà! Your inbox is organized in a way that lets you see what’s new at a glance and decide which emails you want to read when. “

Customize Gmail new inbox to your liking: With Gmail auto magically sending messages into tabs,  if you want a message to appear in different tab, drag and drop it onto that one.

Each Starred message appears on “Primary” tab and you can also choose to have sender always appear in a particular tab.

Switching to current Priority inbox style new inbox style: Don’t like Gmail’s New Inbox?, Google won’t force it on you. You can switch to Priority inbox by selecting “Priority inbox” from Inbox menu on left. As you already know Priority Inbox offers sections like  Important and unread,  Stared and Everything else.

How to know New Inbox is available for your Gmail account?:  Keep checking Gear menu (settings menu) for “Configure inbox” option to try out.
