If you’re following recently leaked Windows 8 Consumer Preview build screenshots you might’ve known that- the start orb has been removed and the black charms bar or the tiny Start menu which appeared in Windows 8 Developer Preview when you hover your mouse pointer down to the Start button has been ditched instead a new transparent charms bar has been favored, this bar appears when you mouse over the right border of your screen.

You can now test similar transparent charms bar right now directly on Windows 7 and that too before Windows 8 Beta launch with a skin for RocketDock developed by the developer PeterRollar.

Bring Windows 8 like Transparent Charms bar to Windows 7 with a RocketDock Skin

All you need to do is first download and install RocketDock on your Computer, later download this rar file and extract its contents to folder. Now copy “Icons” and “Charmbar transparent” folders into the RocketDock directory which you can found in Program Files, here we’re replacing RocketDock’s Icon folder.

Now copy and paste Settingstransparent. ini into RocketDock installed directory and rename it to Settings.ini, all set. Now launch RocketDock from Start menu or desktop and you can see the  charms bar on right border of the screen when you mouse over.

You can right-click on Charms bar and uncheck for “AutoHide” to permanently stick it to the screen, you can also change its position to top, bottom or left side of the screen. You can open “Dock Settings” and set it to run at Startup so that you don’t need to launch it every time after the Windows Startup.

Charms bar icons opens the folders of Control Panel, Device Manager, Programs Folder in Start Menu, Network Connections and Search window (order from bottom to top).

Developer provided file contains black and transparent skins for RocketDock, however here we’ve only talked about transparent one because black one looked ugly on our screens after testing.
