Security vendor Symantec today released Norton Safety Minder, a free android app as part of Norton Online Family that allows parents to monitor their children’s activities on smartphone by setting up “house rules”. This app provides web monitoring and blocking features.
Norton online Family till now available as a Parental Control software for PCs and Macs which Norton now extends to Android devices. A parent with Norton Online Family Account can apply the same web filtering settings for the Child PC to child’s android phone.
“Parents know they need to be involved in their kids’ digital lives, and most actually set and discuss house rules for computer use and Internet browsing” said Marian Merritt, Norton Internet Safety Advocate. “But to make those rules work, you need to extend them to your child’s mobile phone where so much web browsing takes place. With Norton Safety Minder: Mobile Edition, parents can help their kids stick to those rules, regardless of which device they are on.
Parents can download and install Norton Safety Minder App onto their child’ android phone from android market store, then they need to login to Norton Online Family account (create one from within the app) and manage the “’House Rules” on that device through onlinefamily.norton.com website.
From a single account, they can add dozen phones easily and apply unique settings for each device and parents can manage varied settings for kids for different ages.
Norton Online Family Premier is a paid subscription service which offers advanced features that free mobile edition lacks , such as SMS text monitoring .
Norton Safety Minder works on Android 2.2/2.3 phones.
