Avast released Avast 7 beta with significant new features, this includes: new installer, user interface changes, Filerep service , Remote Assistance, streaming updates, support for Windows 8 Developer Preview .
Avast 7 Beta Review
Avast 7 Beta “new installer” is quick, when you run setup installation finishes with in a minute and asks you to Restart your Computer after that for changes to take effect. I re-registered Beta self as Avast warned mines expires in 7 days.
Avast 7 introduced cloud-based FileRep ( file reputation) service and streaming updates, these two services are enabled by default. Reputation services allow Avast to make more intelligent decisions by querying the Avast file reputation database. Streaming updates, also a now feature keeps Avast up-to-date against latest threats.
Real-Time shields page lists all protection shields- File System shield ,Web Shield, P2P Shield, IM Shield, Network Shield, and Behavior shield- at one place.
Remote Assistance feature in Avast
Sandbox, AutoSandbox and Browser Protections are improved. Does any free antivirus offers Remote Assistance feature, Avast 7 does. This beta allows Avast users to share desktops with each others
You can ask your friend/relative for assistance to troubleshoot problems in your Computer for that, click on “ Allow Remote Control”and share the code displayed on dialog with the assisting person via Phone, Email or chat. Similarly assisting person connects you to your Computer remotely by clicking on “ Control Remote Computer” and further by entering the code you sent.
Avast Screensaver that appears when your system is idle and performs scans improved as well. Support tool is added in this release which allows user to generate a data package, items in this includes- Basic information, Log files, Minidumps- that helps Avast support engineers to troubleshoot the problem.
Windows 8 Support
Avast 7 Beta works on Windows 8 developer preview. We can expect Avast to release compatible beta version that works on Windows 8 “Consumer Preview” by the time Windows 8 beta releases .Other features:Rootkit scan on system startup and raw disk access during Avast boot-time scan are enabled by default which you can change from its settings.
