Microsoft developed XPS (XML Paper specification) document as an alternate to Adobe’s PDF document format and introduced it with Windows Vista. You can still find “Microsoft XPS Document Writer” in Windows 7 in Printers and Devices Folder of the Control Panel. Let us take a look at how to uninstall or completely remove Microsoft XPS Document Writer along with its drivers from your Computer.
Removing Microsoft XPS Document Writer
You can create XPS documents from Microsoft Office or from other text editing programs like notepad or WordPad, all you need to do is select print from the file menu and select Microsoft XPS Document Writer and click print button to create the XPS document.
Microsoft Windows 7 does offer XPS Viewer to view the contents. Once an XPS document is created, it can’t be edited. Microsoft still offers documentation downloads on their website in XPS format along with the PDF format.

Using XPS Removal tool
Download the program zip file, extract its contents to a folder and run the executable XPSRemovalTool.exe. All you need to do is click ‘Remove’ button.

Reinstalling XPS component in Windows 7 and 8
Open Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Add a Printer, click on Add a local printer > Use existing port > Next, select ‘Microsoft’ under printer manufacturer’s list, Microsoft Document XPS Writer will be shown on the right, click ‘Next’ button couple of times, MDXPSW will be added to the printers list.
XPS Removal tool works on Windows XP/Vista/7/8.
I removed MDSPSW using XPS removal tool and reinstalled it successfully using the above method.
