Unless you unchecked for install of AVG gadget during AVG installation otherwise this gadget will be installed into your System.
Uninstalling AVG 2011 gadget
1.Right click on the desktop, click gadgets
2.Select AVG gadget,right click on it and click Uninstall.

This is the most valuable part in AVG2011, much easier than staring the main user interface. Why uninstalling ?
AS I mentioned in the post any one can still initiate scan and update of avg from its tray icon, that’y it may not that much necessary in my opinion.
I have a question, does the AVG gadget do the same scan as you it does when you initiate the scan from the tray icon? If so, how since the tray icon takes 35 minutes to scan the PC and the gadget does it in 3 minutes 45 seconds?
If you look at many gadgets you will find you can do many of the functions through other means. Gadgets are there for convinience and this gadget does that. It’s not like its different to removing any other gadget anyway.

You can’t get it back, if you think when it is unnecessary go ahead and uninstall it ,otherwise leaving it aloin will do no harm to your computer.
