Downloading Malwarebytes’ Anti-malware signature updates manually
There are two ways to manually download MBAM definitions, first one provides latest definitions (recommended method) where as second one provides definition updates just day before released to the first one.
Malwarebytes daily releases definition updates.
You can know the latest database version of MBAM definitions from here .
I.Recommended method to download Malwarebytes definitions
1.First you need to update definitions for MBAM Online on another computer by hitting Update tab and click Check for Updates in MBAM.
2.You can find the updated definitions /rules installed here then
- For Windows XP and 2000
“C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware\rules.ref” - For Windows Vista and Windows 7:
“C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware\rules.ref”
3.Copy the rules file in Flash Drive or to CD /DVD and copy it to in infected Computer at above mentioned path in Windows considering Malwarebytes already installed.
Now Malwarebytes’ anti-malware definitions are updated, you can check by opening and confirming the database version shown under Update in MBAM.
II.Second method to download definition updates for MBAM manually
You can download MBAM signature updates and install in your Computer.
But it always falls behind the definitions update (rules file) we grabbed from updating the program.

People with no access to automatic updater available at
http://data-cdn.mbamupdates.com/tools/mbam-rules.exe
can also download the Malwarebytes anti-malware definitions file by doing as follow:
1. check latest version number
http://data-cdn.mbamupdates.com/v0/database/version.check
2. download ref file with
http://data-cdn.mbamupdates.com/v0/database/data/rules.%var%.ref
but replace %var% with actual version number found in step 1
3. move ref file to accurate directory
- For Windows XP and 2000 users, open and copy from the following location:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware\rules.ref
- Windows Vista and Windows 7 users, open and copy from the following location:
C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware\rules.ref
