The Google save preferences method doesn’t work.
Every session requires a repeat disable.
Highly annoying.

I can’t think of a better way for Google to start losing some of their users, than by that God-Awful “instant is ON” “help?”…… Looks like I be giving “Bing”, another look-see….

GOOGLE – you didn’t just shoot yourself in the foot – you hit gray matter……..

Just like with Google Sidebar, I’m waiting for an add-on that disables instant. I have to wonder if their strategy isn’t to get people to sign up for Google, as the only way to permanently right now is to have a Google profile, auto log to your account, and change instant to “off” in your settings.

That’s right, annoy us into joining. That will work.

It’s quite easy to disable Google instant as well as Google auto complete in Firefox. They’re both java driven. If you install the YesScript addon in Firefox and enter Google as one of the sites to disable Java on…a miracle occurs. Not only do you get rid of Google Instant and Autocomplete…but Google Images, which Google recently rendered
worthless, reverts back to it’s old self. Pretty fantastic.

Not so. Cannot turn off google instant. I try on the page, and all it does is erase the search I’m working on. If I go to preferences and turn it off, it still doesn’t turn it off. But it DOES then ignore my other settings, e.g., 100 results.

I wish google would give results I request instead of giving wrong results faster. I can’t figure the real reason behind this creepiness.

BTW, Google is beginning to be evil in all ways. Worst is the Picasa face recognition that inveigles you into identifying all your unsuspecting friends, and giving their email address to Google, so google can add it to its worldwide profiling of everyone for some future nefarious purpose. I don’t see this as just advertising, just scary.

Bing is looking good.
