We all know Gmail allows to send same message to more than one person, to a group and to a mailing list,  it gets in your mind how do I know that message sent by my friend to only to me or to a group or to a mailing list, you can find out that easily in Gmail.

First of all you should know Gmail shows arrows next to messages which are called as “Personal level indicators “.These personal level indicators are disabled by default in Gmail.

  • If single arrow (>) shows next to message then that means the message was addressed to you and group of other people.
  • Double arrows (>>) next to message indicate that message was sent to you only.

  • Arrows will not appear next to mailing list.

To enable personal level indicators in Gmail

Go to Settings>General>select show indicators opposite to personal level indicators and click Save Changes.
