goo.gl, Chrome extension

Google having launched their own URL Shortener goo.gl, to share pages on popular social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook and through email, presently Google allows to share pages through their URL Shortener from Google Toolbar and FeedBurner (for Blog publishers) only. If you are using Google Chrome, since there is not yet Google Toolbar available for Chrome but good news is that goo.gl URL Shortener extension now available for Chrome.

Though Google offering goo.gl URL Shortener presently to their services only, don’t be surprised if they will make this service available for all users in future. Like other URL Shorteners goo.gl shortens the long URLs into goo.gl URLs which can be shared, tweeted and can be sent through emails.

Since Google uses the same technology for goo.gl also which is used to identify malware and phishing websites for their search engine results, so almost all shortened URLs with goo.gl will be safe .

To install it, visit goo.gl URL Shortener extension page click “install” it. From now onwards whenever you wish to share web page on twitter or Facebook, click goo.gl URL Shortener icon in toolbar of Chrome, then goo.gl shortened URL will be copied to clipboard automatically which you can share on twitter, facebook or email.

User can configure options for this  extension by clicking Wrench menu selecting Extensions and Options under goo.gl URL Shortener extension.
