As a user you have every right  to protect your  privacy sot that no one can access the contents of drives .So let us see how we can prevent access to specified or  all drives from My computer.Here we are using windows built in Group Policy Editor for this.

  1. Click >start>Run and type gpedit.msc
  2. In the left pane select User Configuration>Administrative Templates>Windows Explorer.
  3. In the right pane double click Prevent access to drives from My Computer select Enabled and in the drop down list select which drives you want to restrict access to for example you can select Restrict C drive only or you can select Restrict  all drives.
  4. click Apply and ok.

Now if you open My computer you can still see the drive icons but  you can not access contents of drives ,if when anybody tries to access contents of drives then they get warning  message like below.

Restrictions

            This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system
            administrator.

                                                         OK

To disable this setting follow procedure from step 1 to 2 and disable the Prevent Access to drives from My Computer.
